Everyone has goals in life in some way shape or form. These could be health and fitness goals, job or career goals, financial goals, home goals, personal development goals, travel goals, etc. You don’t just wake up one day a success. You don’t just wake up one day as the person you aspire to be. As you know, you have to work at it.
If you want to progress at work, you have to behave like the person who is dedicated to their job, starting on time or earlier, going above and beyond and doing the things you don’t always enjoy, so you can get ahead in your job and your career. You behave like the person you are aspiring to be.
If you want to have nice nest egg, buy nice things, go on holidays, live in a nice house, be able to pay your bills on time etc. you need a financial plan. You need to work out a budget, create a savings plan, sacrifice little things whilst you work at developing your long term financial position. You need to behave as the person you aspire to be, the person who saves and spends wisely, in order to achieve the financial position you want to achieve.
So too, if you want to improve something in your health and fitness, you need to behave as the person you aspire to be. You need to make changes to your nutrition, manage your stress, drink enough water, get adequate sleep and be active. You need to behave as the person you aspire to be.
In any of these scenarios, if you continue to behave in the way you have always behaved, you will continue to be the person you have always been. This is great, if you are happy, truly happy, being that person. But if you are not truly happy, the only person that can change that is you. You are the only person that has the power to change. And don’t keep telling yourself stories such as ‘you’re just lazy’, ‘you don’t deserve it’, ‘you aren’t worthy’, ‘you’re too busy’ etc. These are the stories you tell yourself when you need an excuse to cover the truth; it is not important enough to you.
So ask yourself this question the next time you stop behaving as the person you aspire to be: Do you really want to be that person? Because if you do, start practicing each and every day. If you do not start practicing being that person, then it truly is not a priority for you. And that is perfectly fine. As long as you recognize that, so you can stop beating yourself up for not progressing towards your goals. There is obviously something else more important right now. Identify that, work with that and you will find, when the time is right for you to focus on that other goal that you originally thought was important, you will. And you will succeed with it.
