Today we celebrate the beautiful Debbie Goldsworthy:
Debbie has been a part of the TF community for a few years. Initially joining in 2018 Debbie achieved incredible results however suffered an injury which set her back. The following year Debbie reinjured herself this time bulging discs in her spine. All the pain and recovery time set Debbie back not only physically but mentally as well, losing motivation in her health journey.
Re-joining in 2021, Debbie attended our ‘Food for Health and Weight Loss’ workshop, and the following year our ‘Conquer Your Mindset’ workshop; this was just the start.
Debbie was hesitant to attend group fitness after her injuries in case they were aggravated, which caused a lot of pain for her day-to-day life activities, let alone fitness classes. Week to week we touched base with Debbie, but still didn’t see her in classes.
In July 2022 Debbie came in for a mobility assessment after which she took the plunge and signed up to PT (personal training) with me (Coach Jamie). Straight off the bat we began Nutrition Coaching and completed the Nutrition Bootcamp. This process was very important for Debbie. Debbie had undergone weight loss surgery years prior and since then, her eating habits were close to non-existent, affecting her metabolism and digestion.
Debbie smashed through the process and from eating an average of once per day, she progressed to eating 5 times a day and drinking 2-3 litres of water per day. Eating anything and drinking water together, was close to impossible prior to these 6 weeks of bootcamp.
As the weeks went one we continued to keep track of Debbie’s food ensuring that her habits stayed consistent. Debbie was open honest about her food each week regardless of whether it was amazing, or if she was struggling. Together we strategized and worked on reframing thought patterns and being kinder to herself.
As weeks went by Debbie began smiling more and laughing more, putting her in a better frame of mind. Working with allied health professionals, together with our movement reconstruction exercises, we have been able to mobilise and strengthen her body safely. Debbie is smashing goals and completing tasks she doubted herself with.
To top it all off Debbie has worked so incredibly hard to shift her mindset and believe in herself more, so that after fearing group fitness due to worrying about reinjuring herself, she now trusts in herself and her body and is participating and enjoying classes such as KB Strong-U.
Debbie with all she has achieved, has also dropped a total of 12cm and 10kg since July! Debbie you are an incredibly hard worker and have amazing things coming for you. Bring on the next leg of your journey.

Here is Debbie’s story in her words:
“In 2018 Terrific Fitness popped up on Facebook as a local business. I wanted to train but was self-conscious. However, TF felt different. I felt that TF was a safe place, from the videos I saw and wanted to join. I thoroughly enjoyed my initial 12 weeks and saw results. However a work accident barred me from training.
In July 2021 I signed back up to TF and participated in the mindset workshop.
I rejoined as the pain from my injuries subsided to the point I was mobile and wanted to train in group fitness again. My injuries had held me back as I was scared of being in pain and reinjuring myself. I wanted to feel better and knew that one of TF’s strengths is working with injuries and knew they could accommodate and would help me every step of the way.
Some success I have experience include being 10kg of weight less this year! I can fit into work pants which are now actually looser. Enjoying food more with no guilt and self-destructive patterns for the first time in years. I enjoy family celebrations and public holidays such as Cup Day, where I would normally deny myself the opportunity to be free and have fun with food.
I now have an appetite since having Lap band surgery. I learnt how to change my negative self-talk. In training I have done things I never thought I could do. I have completed tasks such as the white battle ropes without stopping surprising myself.
Challenges I have overcome include the stress of letting myself go now that I have learnt how to implement strategies to take day to day in life. I have overcome negative thought patterns about myself, letting go of the ‘I can’t’ mindset. I have more movement and mobility and have overcome some of my aches and pains, particularly my knee pain, which has alleviated. Also overcoming hip aches and pains, self-doubt and being hard on myself.
Before Joining TF I struggled majorly with eating. I would normally go all day without eating, not realising it was impacting my mood, energy levels and other things and now I eat regularly throughout the day.
I feel a hell of a lot better than 5 years ago. I changed for the better! In 2020 I didn’t feel like I could do better, this was me, this was it. I now know I have the ability to make change and be better for myself. I show up every week and do it for myself. I haven’t given up or let pain win. I have gained mental strength to not throw in the towel and I wait for pain to go away before starting again. I have developed a level of determination to still turn up and smash goals. I have developed trust between coach and allied health professionals to work as a team to help relieve pain which has been a major inhibitor. [Jamie: And back into classes!]
I routinely come to training, walk when pain lets me, and have joined back to group classes!!!
Post doing Nutrition Bootcamp my nutrition is good, making better choices. I use tools from the Nutrition Bootcamp to implement into lifestyle to create balance. I no longer have a toxic mindset towards food. Now I have more of a metabolism; it had slowed right down after lap band surgery. I actually eat like I want to. I eat whole food not all crap food, and I can now drink water and eat at the same time without being overfull!” – Debbie Goldsworthy
