Winter is the greatest time to train, you know what they say about those summer bodies, they are made in winter.
In saying that, it’s one of the hardest times to train. Its freezing cold, all you want to do is sit on the couch in your UGG boots under a blanket…right? I’ll never forget feeling that way, and of course I still do at times but now I know just how important training is. About 3 years ago, almost to the day, that was me. I distinctly remember coming home from work, it was cold, miserable and dark and I had the ducted heating on and thought, it’s too cold to train, I’ll just have a night off.
One night became another night.. I remember the distinct message I sent to Terri of my excuse as to why I couldn’t train. Something along the lines of, I can’t make training, it’s been a big week and I am tired. Terri could easily have responded with no worries, she didn’t. She responded with something along the lines of, no worries, remember, this is one of those times where you need to lift yourself up, and if need be drag yourself to training, because I promise you, in time, you won’t feel like that any more. I’ll never forget it, imagine I had of ignored that message…I’d probably still be sitting on the couch under my blanket!!
So from an experienced WINTER Grinch who dreads the winter months, here’s my advice to you as the winter months draw closer….
Find yourself an accountability buddy who is going to follow you up if you’re not at class… You will be more likely to bring yourself to training if your buddy is relying on you
Food prep as much as you can, this is the perfect time of year to make soups(hearty ones full of amazing fresh produce) because that way you can’t use dinner as an excuse!
When you have thoughts such as, it’s way too warm in here to go to training, think of the reason why you are training, what are your goals? What’s staying home going to achieve? How will you feel if you don’t train against how will you feel if you do?
Keep warm, hydrated and fuelled before you train!
Remember our facilities are inside, we don’t train outside at all so even though it might be a little chili, we will warm you up within the first 5 minutes(now that’s a promise)
Exercise along with great nutrition will help build a great immune system and as a result you will be less likely to get sick during the winter months!!
And remember its only cold IF YOU ARE STANDING STILL!!! So get to class and make this round your absolute best yet.
The winter months will challenge you, I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, it will be hard, the cold weather will no doubt get you down, but we are a community, a family and together the next 12 weeks we are going to absolutely ROCK our results and come summer…MELBOURNE WON’T KNOW WHAT HAS HIT IT!!!
That’s all from me… xxx
